Filament Guide Locking Part for Wanhao i3
thingiverse
A locking insert for Grezmel's "Filament Guide for Top Spool Holder" on Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:979847). I preferred Grezmel's design over others, but the filament often escaped from the front slot, especially when raised in the Z-axis. To solve this issue, I designed a small part that fits snugly inside the filament loop to secure it completely. I created smooth entry and exit bevels for easy installation and removal. Once installed, it's a friction fit but can still be turned or removed when needed. Two STL files are provided: one is the same part flipped upside down - I printed from the upside-down file without support, but included both due to slight overhang concerns at the base. My first attempt included printing both ways round (shown in photo 2), but you only need to print the part once. Printer Settings: Wanhao i3 Duplicator Rafts: No Supports: Doesn't Matter Notes: I included files for printing either way up, as both worked fine on my first attempt. The right-way-up file was printed with support, and it would be best to start with the upside-down file which doesn't require support. To ensure a strong part, I printed at nearly 100% infill, but less should work just fine. How I Designed This: I created this insert in Cinema 4D using Grezmel's filament guide model as a reference and then exported it to Simplify3D for slicing as an STL file.
