This guide keeps filament under control when mounting the spool on the Monoprice Maker Select 13860's control unit instead of its top printer surface. The Monoprice Maker Select 13860, modeled after the i3, includes instructions for mounting the filament spool to the top of the printer. However, the i3's sheet metal construction and cost-effective price come with a drawback - it sways easily in the Y axis, making the weight of the spool on top even worse. Fortunately, there are screws and holes available for mounting the spool holder directly onto the controller housing. To make this work, simply remove the spool holder from the top of the printer and attach it to the controller housing as shown, replacing the previous holder with the printed guide that keeps filament under control and moving smoothly. After I initially installed it, I decided to make some cosmetic and structural improvements. I printed an update and included a photo for reference. Next time I load a spool, I'll swap out the part. In most cases, you won't need a raft or supports. If issues with shrinkage and lifting on the bottom corners arise, try using a brim.
