I noticed that filament dryers looked suspiciously like food dehydrators, marked up 300%. Upon further study, this turns out to be the case. Why pay over $100 for a $35 food dehydrator modified to hold a spool of filament?

I bought a Westinghouse food dehydrator on Amazon for $38.97. Rather than cut up the trays that came with it (so I can use it to dry food at some point), I chose to make a ring segment for drying filament.

The OpenSCAD file is attached. Modify the parameters for your food dehydrator (though they all seem to be very similar in size, probably all made in the same Chinese factory). Print 6 copies. Use suitable glue for your material to glue the segments together using the tabs provided (I'm printing in clear ABS and using an ABS slurry for glue).

The attached STL file is for a food dehydrator with a 320mm diameter (12.6").

Print Settings

Printer:

Prusa i3 Mk3 clone

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.1

Infill:

100%

Filament:
Generic ABS
clear

Notes:

printed at 245 on 105 bed with hairspray.

Category: 3D Printer Accessories
