Filament dry storage and feed box
thingiverse
This is a versatile spool holder and dry box designed specifically for filament storage. To keep my frequently used filaments dry, I've built multiple units that allow me to grab the box(es) needed and attach them directly to my printer or Palette 2 without exposing the filament to moist air. The box is tailored for single spools with a diameter of <=200mm and a width of <=85mm, featuring a ~54mm center hole. The actual inner width is 89mm, while the maximum diameter is approximately 219mm. Each box half hits an area of 248x109mm on the build plate, with a total height of about 119mm. When paired with the Palette 2, it functions seamlessly; I assume it will also work fine with the MMU2, although I haven't personally tested that (please share your experience in the comments!). The box can be attached directly to any printer as well. The design consists of two box halves held together by long clips inserted from each side. These clips have slots for storing the bowden tube when not in use. Inside, a 3-piece holder axle is included: two end pieces with 608 bearings and a central piece connecting them. Two spool hubs are also provided, where you press-fit 608 bearings into each hub before inserting the axle ends. To assemble this project, you'll need: * A 75x75x2mm piece of acrylic plastic for the window * Adhesive 10x5mm soft sealing tape to create a seal between the box halves * 2 x 608 bearings (8x22x7mm) for the spool holder * A PC4-01 pneumatic connector for the bowden tube * A 4mm OD PTFE tube, using a 2.5mm ID for reduced friction or a 2.0mm ID as an alternative * 50g-100g of re-settable silica gel spread across the bottom of the box to maintain dry air Before assembly, be sure to remove the scaffolding and supports that aid in printing the box halves. I've been meaning to create a build video and comprehensive documentation for this project, as well as improve the spool holder design. However, I haven't had the time yet. Rather than delay its release, I'm sharing it now with minimal documentation for those willing to take on the challenge.
