Filament Cutter with Compartment (remix): V2.0
thingiverse
I printed the STLs from "martin_au" as provided and noticed a rather loose fit with my particular printer, along with weak pressure from the printed spring.\r\n\r\nAdding some material to the case (I used PTFE tubes I had on hand) improved it quite a bit!\r\n\r\nSo, I decided to remix the "martin_au" files and include a groove in the spring and an edge to the compartment holding the string, as shown in the posted picture.\r\n\r\nThis greatly improved the functionality:\r\n\r\n- The tension provided by the spring is now very acceptable: stronger.\r\n\r\n- The mechanism "snaps" into place with a satisfying snap.\r\n\r\n- The printed spring both keeps the compartment together and provides the necessary tension for the cutter mechanism.\r\n\r\nThe first one I printed, I had to glue the blades in, but somehow this was not necessary for my remixed one, although I didn't change any part of the construction. Must be some tolerances that I cannot reproduce between prints. Be prepared to use superglue to glue the blades to the cutter.\r\n\r\nI used a 3-segment long blade from a cheap 9mm standard blade, as also recommended by Vetterick.\r\n\r\nSo, I think the great design got even better with this small "groove-edge" adaptation, which I post as a remix from "martin_au," who in turn remixed Vetterick, who in turn remixed 4ndreas.\r\n\r\nThank you all for the excellent work!\r\n\r\nThe STLs are rotated the way I printed them. The "spring" part (named "cutter_mes") requires supports, while the others can use configured supports but should be fine without.\r\n\r\nI remixed the STLs by importing them into Fusion 360 and then adding what I wanted there. I also included more smoothing for a nicer grip and filled holes that seemed unused.\r\n\r\nHave fun, Ruud.\r\n\r\nUPDATE v2.0:\r\n\r\nI replaced Cutter_houder.stl with cutter_houder_4.stl. The first one had a 3mm edge, but I found that 4mm works even better....
