# New Cutting Edge Technology (pun intended) This is my design of a new Filament-Cutter, which is supposed to sit somewhere on top of the hotend and to ... you guessed it... cut off the filament that's going into the hotend. I made this primarily to be used in conjunction with [the SMuFF](https://www.thingiverse.com/technik_gegg/designs) but it might serve your purpose as well. Here's a [video of the very first prototype](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qJMDZl65Yg) in action. This version is a redesigned one, in which I flattened the angle of the blade from about 45 deg. to about 15 deg. # BOM This tool basically assembles from the following components: - a standard size servo with a 20 mm servo horn - a Stanley-Cutter blade (one break off piece about 8 x 20 mm) - a compression spring (5,5 x 20 mm 0.5-0.6 wire diameter) - two pneumatic fittings M6 - one bearing OD 10 mm, ID 3mm; i.e. 623-ZZ (optionally screws onto servo horn) - two dovel pins 3 x 20 mm (optional) - a couple of self tapping screws (2.9 x 9.5 and 2.2 x 6.5 mm) The two dovel pins are meant for guiding the cutter punch and might not be needed (try without first). As for the servo, I've used an MG995 initially but replaced it by an [AMEWI DC5821LV](https://amewi.com/AMX-Racing-DC5821LV-WP-Digital-ServoStandard-218kg) because this one comes with a bit more force. # Printed parts The printed parts consist of: - the cutter-base (green) - the cutter-punch (yellow) - the servo mount (white) - (optional) the support (yellow, on top of hotend) As always, I've packed all STL files into a ZIP file. This ZIP files also includes the Arduino **Filament-Cutter-Test** app source code, which I've used for initial testing. You'll need an Arduino (Nano) attached to a stepper driver via STEP / DIR / ENABLE interface and at least one pin for the servo.
