Filament Color System Chip

We have just launched The Print Codex on Kickstarter! Our goal with The Print Codex is to take the guesswork out of color selection by providing pre-printed swatch chips across a variety of brands, colors and finishes. For the price of a spool you could have a set of chips to keep on file for all future projects. You'll know exactly what to expect when that spool arrives in the mail.Back us now on Kickstarter!-----------------------------------------------------------The Filament Color System is becoming The Print Codex!Thank you all for your support so far, it has been encouraging knowing other people find these swatch chips useful. The primary goal of The Print Codex (PCX) is to offer sets of swatches for sale to end users. However, I know the community will always want and need to be able to print their own chips to add to their collection. So, the new chip design will continue to be updated as people need new manufacturers and materials in the new printables listed here. The chip is changing though, specifically its height is increasing to 60mm. This is so we can use a common label size for our new chips. The new PCX chips will still fit in all the FCS accessories, however the storage box lid will need to be taller (The model will be updated soon). This FCS chip Printables listing will be left as is in case you want to keep using it or feel that The Print Codex doesn't suit you. However, it will not be updated going forward. I will be working through the rest of the FCS listings and updating or replacing them over the next month or so.I hope that you will take a look at The Print Codex and let me know your thoughts.----------------------------------------------------------- The Filament Color System (FCS for short) allows you to produce color reference chips for materials you print.FeaturesEasily determine material and brand of past prints. Each chip has the brand and material debossed onto the top face. Each chip is 48.2mm x 48.2mm x 2mm. This should be large enough to measure using a spectrophotometer. Each chip is 4g of material. Minimal material used and takes ~30min to print. Two thicknesses allow you to get a sense of opacity of each color.4mm hole allows chips to be attached to a keychain or piece of string forming a color pallete.Frequently Asked QuestionsWhy not use one of the dozens of material chips already on printables/thang/thingiverse?I wanted each chip to have sufficient information to determine the specific material and reorder it. This is possible by having both the debossed brand and material on each chip. I wasnt able to find a collection of chips elsewhere that had this.Which Brands are included?Check out the Materials.txt file for a full list. I think it covers most of the common brands. You are missing Brand/Material X!Leave me a comment and I'll add it! There are ALOT of materials and brands out there. I have added the ones I am aware off but always happy to add more. Why dont the chips have the color debossed into them?Primarily because that would result in a magnitude more files to manage and require scrapping alot more data.Secondly, most people can see the color of each chip. So outside of a few rare cases where a single brand has 2 similair colors of the same material, it shouldnt be an issue.Print instructionsAll models should be sliced with your preferred material settings, 10% infill, no supports.Chips DescriptionImageFCS Color ChipA simple color chipFCS Texture ChipA simple texture chip (Coming Soon) FCS Infill ChipA simple infill chipFCS Blank ChipA blank chip.
