Filament Cleaner
thingiverse
A Simple Filament Cleaner/Lubricator to Boost Your 3D Printer's Performance. I've Observed Several Designs, But Decided to Create My Own, Embracing Self-Sufficiency as a Key Principle. Print Two Units of This Design, Cut Some Sponge to Fit Inside the Alcoves. A Light Touch of Oil on the Sponges Enhances Lubrication, Then Attach Them Around Your Filament with Zip Ties Just Above the Extruder. Voila! Reduced Dirt and Fewer Extruder Stepper Skipping Issues Ensue! Although Initially Designed for 1.75mm Filament, I've Found Better Results Scaling to 115% Before Printing. Lubrication is Actually a Bad Idea, As It Appears to Prevent Extruder Stepper Skipping But Clogs Up in the Hot End's Throat, Causing a Severe Blockage of Burnt Oil and Weird-acting PLA. This Took About 45 Minutes to Resolve, So I Won't Be Using Oil Again! Plain Sponge Still Helps Keep Foreign Matter Out of the Hot-End, Making It a Net Win to Use This Design or Something Similar. Print Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Prusa i3 Clone Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 25% Notes: Supports May Be Necessary, or a Good Nozzle Fan to Help with Bridging. Scale to 150% for Use with 3mm Filament. How I Designed This: I Used Freecad - Another Learning Experience with This Quality Open-Source CAD Software.
