Filament Chip Tray

Filament Chip Tray

I started printing small squares of filament as tests and samples of the different materials I had early on in my home printing process. I soon realized that I needed a way to contain them for easy display and organization. The large Chip Tray, measuring 207 x 87 x 9 mm, comfortably holds 40 chips. It could also be used to hold other household items. Each filament chip is 20 x 20 x 5 mm in size. Before printing the larger tray, I experimented with the smaller Chip Tray Test, which measures 32 x 32 x 9 mm. The smaller test trays are great for catching drips under my printer's second nozzle. These were among the first things I designed using Tinkercad. The walls and base of each tray are thin at just 1 mm thickness. With a few top and bottom solid layers, along with some perimeters and shells, it is effectively 100% infilled. Pictured chips showcase a range of brands and colors in PLA, including glow-in-the-dark and color-changing options that react to UV light.
