Filament Box Grommet
thingiverse
I am designing a Grommet for a Filament Box that will allow for easy access to unused filaments without opening the box. The goal is to create a feed-through hole with a tight 1.75 mm filament opening. After two weeks of use, I have found that the clamp holding the filament works well when the grommet is closed but be cautious when opening it and pulling on the filament by the clamp as the filament may slip out. Initially, I designed a thread in OpenSCAD for my first attempt. Update 08/04/18: I made some adjustments to the "spring" design in the clamp to increase clamping force. However, filaments often have smooth surfaces that can be slippery. Despite this challenge, I believe the updated design is holding the filament better now. Since no major changes were made to the overall design, users who have printed the grommet can simply print and replace the clamp if needed.
