Filament bobbin holder
thingiverse
This is a lightweight yet sturdy filament holder designed for Prusa/Mendel 3D printers, capable of sustaining up to 2.3kg bobbins. The detachable construction features an optional slit for the filament and bearings in the bobbin axis. Designed specifically for bobbins with 30-31mm center openings, it can accommodate bobbins up to a diameter of 230mm and a width of 132mm. To assemble, print two holder pieces, two bearing encasements, and one filament slit. ABS is recommended over PLA due to its tendency to crack when tightened around threaded rods. You'll also need six M3x16 screws, six 3mm washers, six M3 nuts, a 155mm long M8 threaded rod or an M8x150 screw, two M8 nuts (only one if using the M8x150 screw), and two 8mm washers and bearings. The assembly process involves inserting nuts into the filament slit and clamps, installing the holder on your Prusa/Mendel with clamps on the Z-axis step motor threads (58mm center-to-center distance), tightening the clamps, inserting bearings in the center wheels, placing the threaded rod through the bobbin center, adding washers and nuts to secure it, and guiding the filament through the slit to your extruder.
