Filament Alarm From Solder Practice Kit
pinshape
I've been holding onto an old Elenco soldering practice kit in my closet for quite some time now, just waiting to breathe new life into it. So, I decided to create a filament alarm from its components. The filament passes through the hole on the side and when it runs out, the two leads that were previously separated will connect, triggering the alarm. A small hole at the top provides easy access to the volume knob located on the board. To get everything to fit properly, I had to do some trimming, and then I used tape to secure the plates together so they'd work reliably. If I ever revisit this project, I'd definitely redesign it to have all the parts snap together seamlessly. You can check out a quick demo video here: https://youtu.be/nyVRwVZCkmM
