Filament (1.75mm) force measuring hook for tension spring balance
thingiverse
Print two pieces and screw them together with a sturdy M4 screw and secure nuts. Place a spring scale on one side of the assembly, hooking its end securely around it. Clamp the 1.75mm filament directly between the two parts. Next, engage your extruder to pull the filament in and read the force measurement in Newtons - or kilograms, since 1 kilogram is equivalent to 10 Newtons - from the scale until it slips or breaks free. My Vellemann Vertex K8400 3D printer required a change to an MK7 type extruder and gear for improved performance. This upgrade allowed me to boost the initial force from 45 Newtons (4.5 kilograms) to over 70 Newtons (7 kilograms).
