1968.16.0001 “Judas”, a 60 cm tall death figure made of papier maché. This figure informs collectors about the following: “Judas. Bought in Mexico City on March 23, 1967, Good Friday. Represents devils, death, politicians, military, landowners etc., which people consider as "exploiters". Made by a man who sold it, living in D.F. Made of papier maché as sheets, devils, skeletons etc. Often in colors, for example red (devils with horns, etc.). Sold during Easter week. Originally created to remember the execution of Judas Iscariot, later used to inform people how they "execute" local persons or other "evil". Judas is "burned" i.e. fireworks after 10:00 am on Saturday morning (Easter Saturday), when sorrow is over. Sold everywhere in Mexico. Taxi drivers have a miniature Judas hanging in the window of their car. Now forbidden to burn Judas in D.F.”
