FIGURE PAINTING SYSTEM
thingiverse
After getting tired of holding figs by the base and trying to paint them, I discovered a useful painting stand courtesy of lasivian. Since then, ideas began flowing in for improvement and creation of a total system. After utilizing the first version of this new design on several projects and finding it helpful, I believe it's time to share it. Included is a slightly modified plate that resembles lasivian's original design, as well as my redesign featuring guides that hold 28mm, 32mm, and 40mm bases. You can use tape, poster putty, or rubber bands to secure figures already based. There are holes through the plates to allow for paper-clipped figs and bits to be attached to each one. I estimate a total of 40 or 50 figures could be paper-clipped to the plates and sprayed on the rack at once. When printing these plates, it's highly recommended not to use supports; this may vary depending on your 3D printer. You'll need at least 21 round 8mmx3mm magnets. Make sure all magnets are oriented the same way on both the detail stand and the spraying rack so that the base plates can be swapped without any fuss. A small update: June 17, 2018 I was contacted by Wolfeyesbane with an idea for a simple upgrade/change to the system. Honestly, I'm not sure why I didn't think of this before. At WEB's request, I added a round-edged finger rest (mk2) as an alternative to the squared-edge one. It is split in half for printing and requires a little superglue for assembly. Hopefully, it will make painting more comfortable for everyone. I still have to print it myself; it should work just fine, but if you try it and encounter any issues, please leave a message or post, and I'll do my best to hop back on it and get it fixed as soon as possible.
