Figure of Virgin Mary
myminifactory
Human figure of Virgin Mary, crafted circa 1425 in North Germany, now housed at Oppesundby Church, Sjaeland, and proudly displayed at the National Museum (Copenhagen, Denmark). Memento Beta's masterful design. The reverse side, as with many similar works, boasts a hollowed-out interior, skillfully carved by an axe to prevent any potential cracks in the wood. A thorough cleaning of the front has revealed the original hues, although some remnants of the paint remain. Mary and her child were originally painted with vibrant flesh tones and luscious golden locks. Her head-cloth shone with a crisp white hue, while a matching cape cascaded down her back, adorned with delicate gilded edgings and a subtle blue lining. A striking red dress wrapped around her form, embellished with intricate gold, green, and yellow decorations, alongside a darker hue that was likely originally silver in colour. Black shoes complemented the ensemble, while the soil beneath her feet gleamed with a rich green tone.
