Figure of Horus

A bronze hawk statue perhaps a model of the hawk-god Horus stands proudly on display. Incised facial details and wings add intricate texture to its design. The figure rests confidently on a sturdy wooden platform. Originally, the bronze would have shone with a brilliant finish and possibly been adorned with precious metal overlays. Hollow eye sockets await the insertion of precious stones or metals. This majestic figure of Horus, the sky god and celestial hawk, holds deep roots in ancient Egyptian history. It was originally linked to King Chephren, the mastermind behind the Second Pyramid's construction. As the god of Northern Egypt before the unification of the two kingdoms, Horus often merged with solar associations, especially when combined with sun-god Ra. In pharaonic culture, Horus was closely tied to the ruler, who was believed to be Horus' living incarnation on earth until their union with Osiris, the god of the underworld, after death. Dating back to Ancient Egyptian times, the First Dynasty marks a significant period in the Old Kingdom's rich history.
