Figure of a king from the Bristol High Cross

myminifactory

This statue of a king was once part of the grand market cross at Bristol, which stood on two different sites within the city before it was disassembled in 1762. The merchant banker Henry Hoare purchased the cross in 1764 to decorate the grounds of his estate at Stourhead, Wiltshire, where it still stands today. This statue and three others nearby were replaced with copies in 1980. Unfortunately, the identities of these individual kings remain unknown, but they may have been modeled after John, Henry III, Edward I, or Edward III.
