This majestic statue of a king formed an integral part of Bristol's elaborate market cross, which stood proudly at two distinct locations within the city before its dismantling in 1762. Just four years later, in 1764, the wealthy merchant banker Henry Hoare acquired the cross to adorn the grounds of his esteemed estate at Stourhead, Wiltshire, where it still resides today.
