A flat ribbon can easily be tied into a figure 8 knot using only precise 60-degree folds. Here, sturdy green Zometool struts form the central axis of the ribbon, measuring exactly half its width. Every fold is carefully positioned as an exact multiple of this length. My original model of this knot showcases it tied with loose, open structure for better visibility. This one demonstrates how it can be tightened to its absolute limit in all significant (yellow) sections while maintaining perfectly consistent 60-degree folds. If the 60-degree constraint is removed, the knot can be closed as tightly as possible. The purple sections along the Z-axis could all be reduced to zero length to fully seal the knot. This model was created using vZome software. The original vZome file is included in the zip download of this model for your convenience.
