The output from this 3D model was then imported into Terramodel software for detailed excavation design tailored to impacted soil specifics. The resulting Terramodel data was provided directly to GPS-equipped excavators, enabling optimal segregation of clean overburden and "benching" soils crucial for maintaining excavation stability, while also isolating impacted material for removal from the site as two distinct waste types. Seamless 3D characterization, remedial design, and precise excavation techniques were showcased in a conference presentation titled PCB-Impacted Soil Remediation at the Battelle Tenth International Conference on Chlorinated and Recalcitrant Compound Remediation, held May 22-26, 2016, in Palm Springs, California.
