Master of the Wet Cloths circa 1170 Granite A slight bend in one of his legs creates a tension in his garments and, with it, the classic pleats adhered to his anatomy that have given name to his author, the Master of the Wet Cloths. It would be a great sculptor, representative of the last Romanesque Compostelan who was going to end up being replaced by the innovative art of Master Mateo. Both characters and their different artistic conceptions would come together in the works of Santiago Cathedral around 1170, as evidenced by some decorative elements of the Crypt of the Pórtico de la Gloria and also in a series of sculptures like this, recovered at different times in the surroundings of the western end of the cathedral.
