FIGURA DEL APÓSTOL JUAN?
sketchfab
Maestro Mateo and his workshop circa 1200. The first segment of the south facade of the Maestro Mateo choir would repeat the sequence of characters from the right pillar of the central part of the Portico of Glory, formed by apostles Peter, Paul, James, and John. This last one has been identified with the piece currently exhibited in the Cathedral Museum, following its discovery in 1988 when it was being used as building material in a wall of the "slaughterhouse" located in the underground area of the cathedral cloister. The piece would lean on its chin with its left hand, while a closed book placed on its knee would support its elbow. It has a particularity that gives it special value among the recovered remnants of the Maestro Mateo choir, a relief on its reverse side showing the mane and tail of a lion, which coincide in shape and size with the lions represented in the Portico of Glory, showing an earlier reuse within the workshop.
