I wanted to research this artifact because it was used by the best general during the Civil War, a man who won the battles that were the turning points of the war. An artifact that he used frequently to survey the battlefield from a distance was his very own field glasses, an item accessible only to high-ranking military soldiers. Grant during his time as general in the Civil War. President: Ulysses S. Grant, Served 1869-1877, Republican Party Contribution/ "The Act" & Presidential Role: His role as president was commander-in-chief of the union army, which became victorious later in the future in the civil war. Impact on America/ Significance: It is important to American history because it would abolish slaves and encourage civil rights for African-Americans later in the future. I chose Ulysses S.
