FIdget Spinner 608 Bearing Cap Snap In
thingiverse
Thanks to all the amazing users of this community, I've been able to create many fantastic things. I felt it was time I gave back something valuable. This idea came from a clever design on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2130642. I designed this in OpenSCAD without any reverse engineering from the original, and I really liked the original concept. My problem with the original was that it didn't fit tightly enough into my bearings and would come loose too easily. Additionally, I needed a higher lip under the thumb rest because of the design of my fidget spinner, which is slightly thicker than a 608 bearing. I also experimented with several other designs, including ones that glued together (which didn't appeal to me, as they were hard to take apart), a threaded one - a really neat concept but it didn't work quite the way I wanted, and a two-piece design that pressed together - again, this required glue. In the end, after printing more than 7 or 8 different caps from Thingiverse, I decided to create my own.
