Fidget Locking Phone Case
thingiverse
Design crafted for Open Design Project as part of MAE 2250 course at Cornell University where it earned the Outstanding Design Project award. The challenge was to create a study aid based on user-needs interviews with students, and here's what we discovered: Students engage extensively with electronic devices, often excessively using their phones, which can be distracting. We designed a device that reduces interaction with these distractions. By doing so, it promotes successful studying, ensuring students achieve success in their final exams. Our design is a phone case equipped with multiple locking mechanisms and a fidgeting "toy" to direct users away from the device inside. Use 1.75mm filament as hinge pins and attach flange/gear pins to the case using glue. Nine 8mm M3 socket cap screws and one 2.5mm hex key are required for assembly, with the 2.5mm hex key also serving as the lock's key. This design fits iPhone 6 Plus models. To secure or release the lock, turn the key clockwise or counterclockwise respectively.
