Fiber optic LED light
thingiverse
I'm using a fiber optic LED light for one of my microscopes, which requires several M3 bolts and hex nuts, along with an LED, heatsink, optical fiber, and some optional rubber washers. I chose the following parts: Heatsink: The Sparkfun model 9798 is no longer available, but it's easy to modify for your own components. LED: I'm using a Cree Xlamp XP-G2 high-power LED, part number CREEXPG2-W158. LED Driver: The BuckPuck DC LED driver, model 3023-D-E-350 from ledsupply.com is perfect for this application. Fiber: I ordered the 810004 fiber optic cable from Industrial Fiber Optics on digikey.com. I also added some thermal tape to ensure a secure connection. By placing rubber washers between the LED board and the collet body, I was able to minimize light leakage. Printing in black would likely further reduce this issue.
