Fiber optic cable switcher
pinshape
Summary This holder attaches two fiber optic cables to an 8mm smooth rod, enabling easy switching between cables for optical experiments. Developed by the Michigan Tech's Open Sustainability Technology Research Group, this component is part of the Open-source Optics project, aiming to drastically lower the cost of scientific optical hardware. Instructions Print the holder on your preferred open-source 3D printer. Insert the two fiber optic cables into the holder and secure them with a set screw. Attach the holder to an 8mm smooth rod using a thumb screw from Thingiverse (30500). For the base, visit Thingiverse (28133). Full information is available online. Thanks to Chenlong for designing this component. It's part of the Open-source Optics Library: Zhang C, Anzalone NC, Faria RP, Pearce JM (2013) Open-Source 3D-Printable Optics Equipment. PLOS ONE 8(3): e59840. This component is a key part of a larger project to reduce research costs using open-source hardware. Read more about this initiative online.
