My stock X1/9 clock has been beyond dogy, losing digits and changing the time over bumps. As a solution to this I present this adaptor for adding in an ebay clock, in an adaptor. This isn't the easiest little project, but someone with some soldering experience and electrical understanding can get it done in an hour or two. This design uses this clock: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/374282434142 2 of these buttons: https://www.jaycar.com.au/1-4mm-spst-micro-tactile-switch/p/SP0601 And a little piece of this PCB https://www.jaycar.com.au/ultra-mini-experimenters-board/p/HP9556 The two buttons are soldered to the PCB at the right spacing to fit in the button holes. With the excess PCB cut off so that it will fit into the slot snuggly. Then 2 wires are soldered to each of the 2 buttons on the clock. These wired are then soldered to the buttons on the PCB. So that the action of the buttons on the PCB are matched to that of the buttons on the clock. After this it is a simple matter of gluing all of the components together, the buttons in the bottom slot, and the clock simply press fits into the top slot. Do note however the corners of the clock slot may need to be sanded out a little for a snug fit. The adaptor can then be placed into the housing of the OEM clock, this is a tight press fit, and may require a little sanding on the top and bottom of the adaptor for the face to snap on without too much force. Finally, the power wires to the clock can be connected to the car, I used little spade connectors so I could just push them into the car connector without cutting the connector off the old clock. With the ground going to where the black wire went on the original clock, and the positive going to where the yellow wire went on the original clock, as this will go to 12V with the ignition. And done! you now have a modernised clock that will keep the time even after the battery has been disconnected, and will even tell you the battery voltage along with the temperature behind the dash. Sorry for the lack of images, if I'd known it was going to work, I would have taken some!
