The Fiat Nuova Cinquecento (500) rolled off assembly lines from 1957 through 1975. This iconic model drew power from its engine's cubic capacity, with the initial version boasting an impressive 13.5 horsepower. This formidable force propelled the vehicle to a blistering top speed of 50 miles per hour. That was surely fast enough to cut through Rome's notorious traffic jams. My DIY build took place on a desktop CNC machine courtesy of Stepcraft. I used a spiral-toothed 1.2 mm flute to precision-cut the components from 6 mm beech plywood and 6 mm beech rods, which served as axles. A judicious application of grease ensured smooth rotation, while washers perfectly positioned the tires (dressed up with wood stain) for optimal traction. A laser cutter might have been a viable alternative tool for this build, but some components require specific dimensions and materials to achieve maximum strength.
