Fiat 850 Sport Coupe Indicator Stalk
thingiverse
The indicator stalk off my Fiat 850 SC had come loose due to a broken piece. Since it featured an interior metal insert, I was able to expose part of that insert and fit in a new end piece.\nPrinted with PLA, sanded, and polished carefully. I won't be gluing it in place because I plan to print another version using ABS/ASA .\nUpdate: After a day in the sun, the stalk began melting and losing its shape.\nThe temperature inside a car can easily rise to 80ºC, causing the plastic to soften just enough for it to start bending.\nNot quitting, I created a new version with a stainless steel insert (from an old wiper blade).\nPrint Settings\nPrinter Brand: RepRap\nPrinter: BQ Prusa\nRafts: Yes\nSupports: Doesn't Matter\nInfill: 100%\nNotes:\nUpdate: To insert the stainless steel backbone, I paused printing at 1.8mm (1.9mm would be better). The first try didn't work out as planned, and the part eventually split.\nTo solve the issue, I increased flow by 5% after pausing and raised temperature by 5º throughout the whole print.\nPost-Printing\nFinishing printed parts requires a lot of elbow grease. Start with a coarse file to flatten and remove imperfections, then move on to 80 grit paper, 120 grit, and so on, finishing with steel wool and scotch brite. I added a touch of my finest shoe polish!
