CITRAR (Centro de Investigación y Tratamiento de Aguas Residuales) cuenta con una planta de tratamiento a escala piloto que hasta el momento trata 1.5 L/s (de una capacidad de 10 L/s) de las aguas residuales de dos asentamientos humanos. Cuenta con un nivel de tratamiento secundario (mediante una laguna secundaria facultativa). Lo novedoso del planta es que cuenta con la tecnología de tratamiento primario llamado "Reacto Anaeróbico de manto de lodos de flujo ascendente" (RAFA o UASB).
