The Perry-class frigate marked the first US ship visit to Viet Nam and Haiphong since the war. Now retired from service in the US Navy, it served as a platform for exploring digital limits on resolution and mathematical modeling in 2004. This was an update from my earlier encounter with the MCAUTO Computer Aided Design Engineering (CADE) tool in 1970 at Long Beach, California, where I only observed carpet plots of engineering parameters to select a configuration for a new Navy carrier-based attack aircraft. The program's commercial availability to a Chicago Naval Architecture firm sparked my curiosity.
