Ferrocerium ( Ferro ) rod belt sheath

This is a clip on belt sheath for an 8mm(5/16") diameter ferrocerium rod fire starter (a.k.a. a ferro rod or fire steel). I wanted it to be as convenient and secure as my knife sheath, but since I wear the knife more often than I'm in the woods, I don't always need the ferro rod, so I figured rather than add it to the sheath as some models I found, I'd just make it a sheath for itself.

Right off the printer this was too tight a fit, I reamed it out with a drill bit, if you haven't got the bit of appropriate size bit on hand I'd recommend scaling this up ~5%.

I printed this in PETG, it will print on its side without supports. Since the loop is also meant to be springy and needs to withstand flexing I printed with 4 perimeters so that the loop would be solid. I'd recommend either PETG, ABS or any other temperature tolerant filament, so that it won't matter if you leave it in the car, PLA would lose the springiness this needs in the summer heat of a car interior.

I designed it with only a 0.2mm clearance between the clip hook parts so if your printer can't handle that let me know and I'd be happy to upload a more forgiving version.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

MK3

Printer:

Prusa i3

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

.2 mm

Infill:

15%

Filament:
Any PETG

Category: Sport & Outdoors
