Founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1939 out of Alfa Romeo's race division as Auto Avio Costruzioni, the company produced its first vehicle in 1940. (FCA) announced plans to separate Ferrari S.p.A. from FCA; at the time of the announcement, FCA held a 90% stake in Ferrari. The separation began in October 2015 with a restructuring that established Ferrari N.V. as the new parent company of the Ferrari group and subsequent sale by FCA of 10% of the shares through an IPO and concurrent listing on the New York Stock Exchange. Throughout the rest of the separation, FCA's interest in Ferrari's operations was dispersed among FCA shareholders with 10% remaining owned by Piero Ferrari. The spin-off was completed on January 3, 2016. Throughout its history, the company has consistently been recognized for its ongoing involvement in racing, especially in Formula One, where it is the oldest and most successful racing team with 16 constructors championships won. Additionally, they hold the record for highest number of drivers' championship victories at 15. Ferrari road vehicles are commonly perceived as a representation of speed, luxury, and wealth.
