The famous Ferrari symbol is a black prancing horse on a canary yellow background, which was originally the emblem of Count Francesco Baracca, an Italian World War I air force hero. Enzo Ferrari met Baracca's mother, who requested he use the horse on his cars for good luck, and he did so after getting permission from Alfa Romeo in 1932. The yellow background represents Modena, Ferrari's birthplace, while the black horse was kept as it appeared on Baracca's planes. Interestingly, German car manufacturer Porsche also has a similar prancing horse logo, borrowed from Stuttgart's city emblem. The symbol has been a trademark of Ferrari since its inception and is now synonymous with the brand.
