After a few drops of my remote control, the pins that hold the batteries in place broke and the batteries started to move. As they moved, they were shorting against the diode (see photo with circle) and wasting energy, making the function unstable. With this simple ring I designed, the batteries stay in place instead. The ring has a flat part and an angled part. The flat part goes towards the board. The angled part points upwards. The angle should be directed towards the diode.
