Prince Ferdinand Philippe of Orléans, born September 3rd, 1810, was the eldest son of Louis Philippe d'Orléans, Duke of Orléans and future King Louis Philippe I. Born in exile to his mother's Sicilian roots, he held birthright to the House of Orléans from conception. Following his father's ascension to the French throne in 1830, he became Prince Royal and subsequently received the title of Duke of Orléans (Duc d'Orléans), a name by which he is most renowned. Tragically, he died on July 13th, 1842, never having the opportunity to succeed his father or witness the downfall of the July Monarchy and subsequent family exile to England.
