XRef links simplify the basic scene by reducing file size and increasing Viewport speed due to low-poly model copies used as proxies. This link system allows you to change mapping and material in the scene without modifying the original file, giving each model its own unique color solution. The main advantage of this approach is a small work file size, making it possible to use regular equipment without expensive professional machines.
