The distal femur, a crucial bone in the human body, was severely damaged in a gunshot wound during the Civil War era. This model is an impressive reconstruction of the original damage, recreated through advanced computer techniques such as Poisson surface reconstruction in Meshlab. The starting point for this recreation was a downloadable version available on Morphosource, which had been scanned at a high resolution of 118.4 microns using microCT technology. The specimen itself is cataloged as AFIP0385009 and is proudly housed at the National Museum of Health and Medicine.
