This breathtaking sculpture comprises two distinct pieces unearthed at separate times within the ancient Roman city of Munigua (Mulva, Villanueva del Río y Minas).\r\nThe head was discovered in 1960 within the pool of the frigidarium at the thermal baths of Munigua, while the torso was unearthed in 1984, a staggering 25 meters away in an adjacent room. The head sparked immense interest due to its striking resemblance.\r\nIt was initially believed to be a representation of Hispania, thanks to the notable stylistic and iconographic similarities with other allegorical sculptures of Roman provinces. However, following the discovery of the torso, this notion was conclusively dispelled in favor of the theory that it was a nymph or the embodiment of Aphrodite/Venus, and formed part of an extensive series of sculptures standing in the thermal baths.\r\nThe city of Munigua, situated on the site of an ancient Iberian settlement, had established ties with the Roman Empire during the reign of Augustus.
