Female Pelvis
sketchfab
This is a detailed model of a female human pelvis, consisting of left and right ossa coxae (the "hip bones"), the sacrum (a large triangle-shaped bone that forms the back wall of the pelvis), and the coccyx (a smaller triangle-shaped "tailbone" located at the bottom of the sacrum). Each ossa coxa ("hip bone") is initially made up of three distinct bones during development - the ilium, a large blade-like portion; the ischium, the lower-posterior part that you sit on; and the pubic bone, the front portion that joins with the opposite ossa coxa at the front of the pelvis. In adults, these three bones are fused together within the ossa coxa visible here - they merge in the area surrounding the acetabulum ("hip joint"), the round cup-like structures on each side of the pelvis. The central ring-like structure is the birth canal in females.
