This is a depiction of a female figure known as a Niobid. According to Greek mythology, the Niobids were the offspring of Amphion of Thebes and Niobe. They were mercilessly slaughtered by Apollo and Artemis because Niobe had brazenly boasted that she had more children than Leto, the mother of Apollo and Artemis.
