The female figure was unearthed in 1954, alongside El Niño from El Plomo hill, within the same semi-subterranean chamber where other treasures were found. According to Inca tradition, ritual figures like this one could fulfill multiple roles, serving as substitutes for servants or embodying characteristics of deities. They also represented esteemed members of the Inca elite and were believed to embody an immaterial force that played a vital role in sacred spaces, or huacas, where offerings were made.
