fellowes shredmate 4-sheet shredder gear
thingiverse
This is a replacement drive gear for the Fellowes Shredmate 4-sheet shredder. I found a youtuber named BcastLar who posted a tutorial of how to use FreeCAD to make a replacement gear. I followed his instructions and this is the result. The larger gear is 38 mm in diameter with 50 teeth at a 15 degree angle and is 1 cm in height. The smaller gear is 13 mm in diameter with 12 teeth and is 1 cm in height. The hole for the shaft is 4 mm in diameter. I recommend you print this with nylon. ABS with 10% infill did not work. ABS might work if you use 100% infill though. I'm told to avoid PLA plastic because it will tend to deform under mechanical stress over time. My original print of this gear broke because I printed it in ABS plastic and did not specify enough infill. There are a surprising number of 3D printing blogs covering the subject of printed gears and most of them recommended nylon as the material of choice. Unfortunately most home 3D printers don't handle nylon very well but I found an online 3D printer service, makexyz.com, that printed this gear in nylon using an SLS printer for about $19, which was as cheap as I could find. This gear has held up well so far. I'll post an update in a few months and let you all know how it's been working. BcastLar's youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3s7T-bAi9M4
