Add a bolt-on feed gear cooler to your Up! printer for enhanced PLA printing capabilities. This Thing directs cooling air from an external compressed air source into the feed mechanism chamber, preventing filament "pre-melt" and stripping issues. While essential for PLA, it's also beneficial when printing with ABS as it can't hurt. Print the Cooler Tube, turn off your printer to let the feed motor cool down, and follow these steps: remove the snap-on cover, unplug connectors from the PCB, remove fan mount/duct assembly, loosen outer two screws holding the motor to the heatsink, lay parts down with tubes facing up, mark cooling tube entry on the gear cover, drill a hole, reassemble parts, and attach cooler tube to cable tray. Connect an air supply, such as an inexpensive airbrush compressor, and use a flexible hose for optimal results.
