Fechtfeder

Even in medieval times, a pressing need emerged for a safe longsword simulator that brought the historical practice sword or Feder to life. The archaic Feder bears only a crude resemblance to the longsword, yet its handling characteristics remain virtually identical, thanks to its flexibility, lack of sharpness, and absence of a piercing tip, which also protects the fingers with its shield-like feature. Since it was not considered a real weapon under medieval law, citizens were allowed to possess and use it freely. According to Wassmannsdorf's account from the late 19th century, the original name for this tool was Paratschwert, or parade sword. Later generations, however, adopted the term "Feder", which has since become the standard terminology among modern fencers. I have chosen to adopt this usage as well.
