Feature 236 Zone G has been successfully removed, marking the conclusion of excavations at Berry Site (31BK22) in Burke County, North Carolina. Conducted by Warren Wilson College Field School in 2018. Observations: The feature represents the base of a significant posthole that penetrates two smaller features, a pit and another posthole, as visible in Feature 236's profile. Situated within the boundaries of Spanish Fort San Juan, built by Juan Pardo and his team in 1567, this posthole is believed to have originated from an earlier Native American presence preceding the fort's construction. The large size of the feature suggests that it was created to accommodate a substantial support beam for the roof of a Native American dwelling.
