FDM Friendly "Steins;gate" Upa
thingiverse
I initially based my design on spope's Upa as a benchmark print, but it necessitated considerable modification to successfully print in one part. Even when printed in multiple parts, it is still not designed with FDM printing capabilities in mind. Determined to create something from scratch, I developed my own model, which is presented here. While not perfect, the process allowed me to learn valuable lessons about modeling features onto a sphere. Several objectives guided the design of this model: Make no ugly unprintable curves (meaning avoid having the bottom of spheres with an unprintable overhang without support). The underside of the ears has a 30-degree overhang (which was not an issue even with my not-so-great part cooling fan on the Printrbot Play), and the underside of the body has a 45-degree overhang, ensuring it will print flawlessly for anyone. Avoid having a multitude of intersecting shells that make it impossible to print in one piece. Fusion offers this feature as a bonus. Perform some stress-testing. Create a model that closely resembles the original using my current skills. There are three models included: one is normal, one has the 45-degree bottom, and one has the 45-degree bottom and tail support.
