Favorite Robots: R2-D2 & C-3PO + Keepon
thingiverse
R2-D2 and C-3PO need no introduction, but if you haven't met Keepon robot yet, check out its performances in Spoon music videos "I Turn My Camera On" and "Don't You Evah." In a series of g-code releases, plottable/drawable "famous robots" are being featured. These releases can be extended, revised, or reordered by anyone. To contribute your favorite robot, follow these steps: obtain an image, trace it in your preferred software, export a DXF file, clean it up and explode it in QCAD, and then use the scribbles tools to generate g-code. These images work with MakerBot Unicorn Pen Plotter but can be adapted for other pen plotters. The creator of these images encourages others to create better ones. At MakerFaire NYC 2010, he printed these images for attendees. SVG files, g-code files, and DXF files are available for those who want to reuse or modify the scribbles. The creator is also seeking a reliable Inkscape-to-DXF plugin that preserves layers. Finally, an update was released with improved DXF conversion techniques that print faster and handle text better.
